Diabetes... this is an issue that although I don't necessarily deal with personally, it is really close to my heart because I have 1 parent and two grandparents with it (thus making me stand up and take note of how to prevent/manage it). If you have diabetes, this affects you. If your parents had diabetes, your risk is that much higher (as are your children at a super high risk if you have it). This disease has become such an epidemic in our nation that it truly troubles me and I have been doing a lot of research over the years on how most cases of diabetes (specifically type 2) can be prevented/kept under control w/simple changes in diet and exercise. These changes don't have to be drastic, or done all at once, as with all changes that are for your health. Changes that are done gradually have a better chance of lasting anyway.
Type 2 diabetes is linked to obesity and physical inactivity. This is especially true among our children, who are being diagnosed with this disease in record numbers because of our modern lifestyles. These two things go hand in hand, the more sedentary you are, the more likely candidate for obesity. The more weight you gain, of course, the more inactive you are because it becomes harder to do even the simplest of activities. So these concepts need to be tackled together and looked at as one in the same. What it all comes down to: taking better care of your temple. As we attempt to do this, with God in mind, we are able to ask for not only His strength to make the required changes, but also His blessing for our obedient efforts in the form of a healthier/strengthened body which is able to fight against this horrible disease.
I pray that we will be able to share different experiences with this subject and journey/pray together for healing and prevention on this. I will continue to share my research, prayers, tips, recipes, etc., with this topic in mind, in hopes that others will do the same and that we can together do our part in helping our loved ones/ourselves be healed of diabetes as well as prevent our children from having to face the same odds.
