In light of such an important chapter, I've shared a couple of sites that touch on this subject in the "loving husbands" section of the board. In this chapter, the author touches on some subjects that although are not usually spoken about, are a key in keeping marriages strong. God created intimacy in marriage, even dedicated an entire book of the Bible to it (Songs), and he created it for a purpose.
I really like the fact that she exposed that, due to the fall/Eve's sin, what was once very natural, now takes effort. We have allowed Satan to run rampant in this department. Right and left we see intimacy outside of marriage being exploited, and then when people marry, they have nothing left to give. Or they have given so much that what they are giving/receiving in marriage is not enough.
In Gen 2, sex was proclaimed for marriage, and in the very next chapter Adam and Eve chose to start listening to others instead of God. We must carefully note how Eve was seduced through (Gen 3:1-6)
her appetite?
her eyes?
her pride?and then figure out what warnings does her fall send to our hearts?
To rekindle intimacy in our own marriages we must remember that through the Bible intimacy in marriage is:
proclaimed (Gen 2:24-25), for procreation[/b] (Gen 1:27-28), pleasure (Pro 5:15-19), Purity (1 Cor 7:2), partnership (1 cor 7:3-4), and to protect (1 Cor 7:5)
To give this area of our marriage our all we must be willing to:
battle shyness (Gen 2:24-25; Pro 5:19), remember that intimacy in marriage is honorable [/b](Heb 13:4), delight in marital intimacy (Pro 5:15-19), and not withhold ourselves from our hubbies.
Elizabeth did a great job of pointing out the verses that support and guide us in His direction for intimacy in marriage, and all wives would do well to commit them to memory.
