OK I just finished reading the first part of lesson one, and here's the breakdown:
Lesson 1 - Studying God's Word
Our source of spiritual nourishment & strength should be every word that proceeds from the mouth of the Lord (Deut. 8:3)
Basic Principles
* Believe that the Bible is from God. All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness. (2Tim 3:16)
(This one kinda seems like it's a given, but it truly is the first step to following Him. I know countless Christians who end up falling by the wayside because at one point or another, they fail to believe that the ENTIRE Bible is God's word to us. I have to constantly remind myself that I can't just pick the parts of the Bible that I like and ignore the rest...)
* Treasure your Bible. Realize how blessed we are to be able to be in possession of such an important book, and how at one point in time, it was not so common to have one.
*Hunger for His Words - Listen carefully to Me, and eat what is good...Incline your ear, and come to Me. Hear, and your soul shall live..." (Isa. 55:2-3) ~ Instead of seeking fulfillment from earthly pleasures...
Suggested Guidelines
* Pick a Bible. (Ex. NKJV, RSV, or NIV for easier reading)
* Have a Bible within reach for when the inspiration hits. This can be in the form of Bible on our laptops, in our Walkman/Mp3/etc., or a small one that we carry w/us in our car, or keep at work...)
* Armed w/a purpose - Read w/our particular purpose in mind. (i.e. specific subject, getting to know the bible, Jesus' teachings, etc...)
* To Schedule or Not To Schedule. Schedule our Bible readings like we schedule our meals. Just as we must eat everyday, we must feed yourself spiritually everyday.
* Find Company. (Eccl. 4:9-10) Hey, isn't that what we're doing here? ;D
Let's tackle just a few of the questions at a time:
1. Read Deut. 8, what was the most important thing Moses said during this last speech to the Israelites?
2. Living as Jesus disciples today, we are actually walking in faith to a promised land. Where is this promised land?
3. Everyday of our life is like a step forward in out spiritual journey through the wilderness. Which scripture can we commit to memory to help us complete this journey?
4. Do you truly believe that the Bible is inspired by God?
