Ch 2 ~Working as a Team~
Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. Eccl. 4:9
Elizabeth begins this chapter by reminding us that reminding us of God's winning combo - a husband and a wife. Biblical guidelines are given for each part of this team:
A husband is to:
~lead in his marriage and family (Gen. 3:16, Eph. 5:22, Col 3:18)
She also notes that although husbands are not "told" to lead, wives are told to willingly follow.
~work and provide for his wife (Gen. 3:17,19)
~love his wife (Eph 5:25,28, Col 3:19, 1 Pet 3:7)
A wife is to:
~ help her husband (Gen 2:18,20)
~submit to her husband (Col. 3:18, Eph 5:22, 1 Pet 3:1)
~respect her husband (Eph 5:33)
~love her husband (Titus 2:4)
She then reminds us to follow God's plan, but not by becoming husband watchers who say that "as soon as he does his part, I'll do mine" and constantly remind them of their shortcomings. We should instead seek to first change ourselves, and let God do the changning of our husbands hearts. For those who are married to non/passive Christian men, we are encouraged to still "help, submit, respect, and love" them as told by God, so that scripture can be fulfilled when it states:
~that the unbelieving husband can be sanctified and (Lord willing) saved through his wives' holiness, and obedience (1 Cor. 7:14-16)
~that they may be "won over" (to Christ) without words by the pure and reverent behavior of their wives. (1 Pet 3:1,2)
[glow=red,2,300]I, personally, have seen this happen on such astounding occasions that the praise can only be given to God.[/glow]
"Little things that make a big difference"
1. Thank your husband for living out his roles.
2. Ask your husband how you can help.
3. Show greater respect for your husband. [glow=red,2,300]( I would add, especially in front of others )[/glow]
4. Think of a way you two can have fun this week.
5. Pray to follow God's plan for a wife (Gen 2:18, Eph. 5:22; 5:33, Titus 2:4)
