Well, my family and I were victims of racism yesterday. It's hard to believe in this day and age that it still exists in such extreme forms, but here in the south were confederate flags are still hung w/pride, racism apparently still runs rampant (although for the most part it's kept very well hidden). We were literally thrown out of a "mom and pop" type health food store that I frequent often, and were asked not to come back. I will not get into details, but I will say that I left the place in tears, and my precious husband did everything in his power to remain Christ-like in his conduct (although I know it truly hurt his pride to see his wife and son being humiliated in this manner, in front of several other customers) and did not raise his voice or fist to this irate, belligerent man or his wife.
I would just like to ask you all to pray that (a) the anger/hurt in my heart will subside, (b) that this event will not form a biased opinion in my young son's mind toward others, and that he will view this only as an isolated event (considering the fact that our family is inter-racial), (c) give thanks to God that He gave my family the strength to stand firm in giving the biblical example of turning the other cheek, and not attacking back as onlookers stared at the scene, and that (d) the Lord may change and bless that store owner's heart so that no person that enters his store may be made to feel like I did yesterday.
Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you, that you may be sons of your Father in heaven; for He makes His sun rise on the evil and on the good, and sends rain on the just and on the unjust. Mat 5:44-45
Repay no one evil for evil...'Vengeance is Mine, I will repay' says the Lord
Rom 12:17,19 Heb. 10:30
Christ suffered for us, leaving us an example, that you should follow his steps...When they hurled their insults at him, he did not retaliate; when he suffered, he made no threats. Instead, he entrusted himself to him who judges justly. 1 Pet 2:23
