I figured I'd start a thread where, we'd share if there's any cookbooks that you really like or sites you can't do without. I know that I didn't know anything about cooking when I first got married. (Although I did have an imagined "I told you so" from my mother in my head ) But with the help of tons of cookbooks (literally) and the plethora of info on the web, I've become pretty well established in my cooking skills. But when it came time to start cooking healthier, I had to start all over again, so I have a rather large collection of cookbooks and sites that I frequent. Not to mention the many cookbooks I've checked out from the library to see if I wanted to purchase them (yes, I admit to being a cookbook addict - I'm out of the closet).
So I thought I'd recommend some of my favorites:
All time favorite cooking site: www.allrecipes.com
*hands down, the best, most informative cooking site that I've found. You will be able to find a recipe for pretty much ANYTHING, regardless of how you eat.
other good sites:
www.recipezaar.com
thefamilyhomestead.com/recipes.htm (healthy and frugal cooking)
www.preparedpantry.com (this site has tons of free e-cookbooks that you can download)
Books - your local library should have these if you wanted to try them out before buying (which I would definitely suggest).
on baking w/whole grains, I'd highly recommend...
King Arthur whole grain baking ( www.amazon.com/Arthur-Flour-Whole-Grain-Baking/dp/0881507199)
&
Recipes from the old mill ( www.amazon.com/Recipes-Old-Mill-Baking-Grains/dp/1561481769/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1/002-8087859-8830467?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1181135071&sr=1-1)
Other faves:
Patti Labelle's Lite Cuisine
www.amazon.com/Patti-Labelles-Lite-Cuisine-Labelle/dp/159240085X/ref=pd_bbs_sr_2/002-8087859-8830467?ie=UTF8&s=books&qid=1181135269&sr=1-2
Southern Living annual recipes (any year, they all rock - and your library should have tons to choose from)
www.amazon.com/s/ref=nb_ss_b/002-8087859-8830467?url=search-alias%3Dstripbooks&field-keywords=southern+living
Anything from the "taste of home" publishers
*Taste of Home
*Quick Cooking
*Light and Tasty,
*Simple and Delicious
*Cooking for 2, and so on
***at one point I had a subscription to all of these mags at once, but that was at a much wealthier time in my life. Now I just keep an eye out for the annual recipe books, at thrift stores and the library, and allrecipes has a lot of their recipes. You probably see the mags in the checkout line at the store here's the website. www.tasteofhome.com/
~~Their "Quick Cooking" mag, is what got me to even step foot in the kitchen, and with so many easy and successful recipes, I quickly gained confidence and realized I had a newfound love for cooking ;D (why didn't I listen to mom sooner )
Any one else have any to share???
