Are you eating enough?
I have had about 5-6 conversations about this in the past week, and it's astounding me every time. People eating under 1200 calories (even as low as 900 or so). I can't help but wonder what kind of turmoil the body is being placed in with such a low amount of cals. Now, I don't think that anyone should be in bondage to counting calories their whole lives, just so that they can look as skinny as some of the toothpick models out there. But I do believe that we should strive to be taking care of our temple, and eating enough nutrients to properly fuel our bodies. Eating under 1200 cals is not enough to fuel your temple!
It wouldn't hurt everyone to track what you eat, even if only for a few days, to make sure that you're on the right track. I personally don't calorie count anymore, but I know were I'm at as far as how much I'm eating per day. Whenever I feel myself slipping, feeling fatigued, or gaining weight, I go back to tracking my food for a while and I soon find the culprit.
The problem is that for so many years, it has been pounded into everyone's brains that in order to lose weight, you must diet. And dieting means starving, basically. Chopping your cals/food intake down to nothing, and losing weight. But this is the surefire way to be a yo-yo dieter for ever! As soon as you lose the weight, you start to eat a bit more, or you treat yourself now and then, you balloon back up to where you were, or worst, higher.
Prevent being a yo-yo, or worse, ruining your health from under-eating by eating several small (healthy) meals per day. Even if you don't think that you could eat that much, just try eating a small serving of fruit, in between meals, until your body gets used to eating more. Not only will you have a better chance of nurturing your body properly, but you will also reset your metabolism and thus start losing weight naturally, or maintaining your current weight (if you desire), in a much healthier way.
