So often we discuss weight loss, or lifting weights, or a new dress size... But what are your reasons for fitness? Do you have multiple goals? I know for me, I can't lie, my "health-style" started as going on a slim-fast plan to lose 10-20 lbs. I planned on going right back to my regular eating after the weight came off. Then a friend recommended the book, "What Would Jesus Eat?" by Dr Don Colbert, and it really changed my perspective on why I ate the way that I ate.
I started to pray about what changes He wanted me to make, and as I did, and obeyed what was put on my heart, I actually received a precious blessing of obedience - I lost the weight! And then some! I became truly intrigued w/what this new way of eating was doing to my body as well as my spiritual life. I started reading all sorts of scriptures on why I should have been caring better for my temple in the first place. I also started reading everything I could get my hands on about the way different foods, additives, preservatives affect our bodies in different ways.
Soon I started looking at my family health history, and realizing that if I hadn't started to change my habits I was headed down a dark road of diabetes, heart problems, and obesity, just to name a few. I knew that this could not be the Lord's plan for my life. I know now that I cannot predict, prevent, or change, the Lord's will as far as how long I will be on this earth. But, I can do my best to make sure that the days that I am on this earth are lived in a clean and healthy temple that I would be honored to have my Lord and Savior reside in.
The pounds have now been lost, and the mental boundaries are now being crossed as I make a vow to myself and my God that I will continue on this journey of health for as long as He allows me to do so.
How did your journey begin?

My journey began to get my diabetes, high blood pressure and cholesterol under control. Diabetes runs in our family my great grandmother had it, my grandmother had it, my mom has it and so does a couple of her sisters, and my father also has it.
Anyway, I let myself get overweight and wasn't even thinking about trying to eat right. (Being a Pastor's wife I knew better) After going for a check up I realized it was time to get on the ball and get it together because not only is my body the temple of God, but my health was in jeopardy in a major way. So I made up my mind to start eating right and lose the weight.
To jump start my weight loss I went on the Nutri System plan for two months. This taught me how and what to eat, but most of all it taught me portion control. And that's what it is really all about "Portion Control."
I started walking in the evenings at Magic Johnson Park and I also found a Curves gym that was on my way to work. So I go to Curves four days a week and I walk three miles two days. And now I have added water aerobics to the routine. To date, I have lost twenty six (26) pounds. I need to lose 36 more to reach my goal. By God's grace I will get there. That's how my journey started.
Blessings in Christ,
Cheryl

My journey started when I looked at a photo of five women in my life who were all over weight. And when I looked and the track record of the deaths in my family. My father, my sister, my long term good girl friend and many more of my close family and friends. Heart attacks, high blood pressure and diabetes run like the Devil in my family. I don't fear death because I know God is with me but I don't like the fact that none of those people lived happy healthy lives. So if we don't keep our Temples clean we can't really enjoy life with out medicines and hospitals. If the Holy Spirit is in us I've come to realize that we must treat our Temple as a sacred place. That's why I take this journey. My 10 lb weight lost is a great treat and looking to lose another 5. But the best part is I'm not experiencing any more physical problems and I feel much better and have more energy. I'm ready to be a healthy servant of the Lord. That is my prayer

Hello, I am new here. I thought I would post some goals, it helps to stay focused. I have been into fitness pretty much as long as I can remember. But seriously in the past 2 years have leaned out quite a bit.
My goal is to maintain my current size, and definition, and constantly tweek the workouts and diet to create new definition. I am also running a 10 mile next month, this will be my second race this year, I ran a 1/2 marathon in Jan. So endurance is also a huge goal for me.
I want to share how inspired I am by my Christian File on my IPOD. I have been running to CHRISTIAN music only, and I love it. I have cried out there, laughed, praised and worshiped, its so awesome!!

I see that we have similar goals. Now that I'm at a healthy size/weight, I like to tweak different things in my workouts to try to add/maintain/increase definition. I'm trying to maintain a healthy amount of muscle now that I've done so much research on how we lose muscle and bone density as we age, and if I have a decent amount to start off w/maybe that won't be as drastic. I would like to get more (read: ANY!) cardio in for health reasons, as I really think that it may help my endo more w/increased circulation. I'm borderline anemic, so my blood doesn't flow easily. I'm just really slack about doing my cardio, although I know I should. It's hard for me because since my blood doesn't flow easy I can only go about 10 min before I get pins and needles and this outrageous burning in my legs, but I've also been told that the only way to get that to go away is to do more each day. So I really need the endurance, and your 10 miles is impressive to me, let us know how it goes. I feel you on the Christian music. I workout at home, so I don't use the Ipod, but I have my Launchcast web radio station that you can have only the music you want playing (I just play it loud when working out, ds doesn't mind, lol), and we have an all Christian music radio station here as well. I can vouch for the miriad of emotions felt when listening all day long (especially for me is a song by Nicole C Mullen, called "one touch" about Jesus healing the woman w/ the flow of blood ). But that is really awesome to have that out w/you on your runs!

I haven't reached my goal yet but I'm still working on it. I work out at curves 4 days a week and I do water arobics 3 days a week for an hour. I had to increase my circuts at curves because my heart rate was only at 60%. So instead of doing 2 for 30 minutes I now do 4 for the whole hour. I wish I could run, but my knees can't tolerate it. Anyway, blessings to you as you prepare and do your 10 miles.

Sandie, it would be a blessing if I could do even 5 miles. So I say you have been blessed to even be attempting this. Please know that our thoughts and prayers will be with you while you are running that 10 miles.
Keep up that stamina! And I too am great working out or even cleaning to my wide selection of christian music. Praise God!
